Protect Our Parkways is a coalition of Wilmington residents who support thoughtful growth, responsible development, and the preservation of the city's historic parkway system.
We are not opposed to development. We are not opposed to apartments. We respect renters. We also recognize that the 1010 Bancroft Parkway and 2140 W. 11th Street site will be redeveloped and support development that is compatible with its surroundings.
Our concern is the proposed rezoning and the precedent it would set for Wilmington's parkways and green spaces. The Parkway system here is among the city's most valuable public assets, enjoyed by residents from every neighborhood. Decisions about their future should be guided by thoughtful planning, meaningful community engagement, and respect for the character and scale of the surrounding areas.
This is not just a debate about what fits the needs of residents on and off Bancroft Parkway. It is a debate about how Wilmington grows, where high-intensity development belongs, and how we protect the greenways that make our city unique.
We support housing.
We support responsible growth that attracts new residents.
We support mixed-use development that contributes to the local economy.
We support meaningful community engagement.
We support protecting Wilmington's parkway system.
We support greenspace that belongs to ALL Wilmington residents.
We oppose spot-zoning and out-of-scale development along greenways.
